The Arizona Rifle Teams, an Adult team and the Scorpions Junior (Youth) team, about 10 shooters each, along with half dozen or more parents,
traveled to Camp Perry, OH for the US National Trophy Rifle Matches at the end of July thru early August.

Most of the shooters shot the CMP Cup matches the week before the National Matches. Then the National Matches consisted of a practice day then a full week of matches:
Mon: Presidents Match, 30 shots, individual 200-300-600yds
Tues: National Trophy Individual Match, 50 shots, individual 200-300-600yds
Wed AM: Hearst Double Team Match, 30 shots, 2-man team 200-300-600yds
Wed PM: National Trophy Junior Team Match, 50 shots, 2-man team 200-300-600yds
Thurs: National Trophy Team Match, 50 shots, 6-man team, individual 200-300-600yds
Fri: National Trophy Infantry Team Match, 384 shot used by 6-shooters and 2 coaches, 600/500/300/200 yds all rapid fire
Fri evening: Awards Ceremony.

Sunday is a Practice Day, 10 minutes each at 300 yd and 600yd
to confirm you scope didn't come loose in travel or there is no zero shift due to elevation or conditions compared to your home range.

The President's Match usually on Monday is a 30-shot individual match
the top 100 shooters earn the right to wear the President's Hundred Tab.
10 shots slow fire offhand at 200 yds
One 10-shot rapid fire string (70 seconds with a reload) prone at 300 yds
10 shots slow fire prone at 600 yds
(this is called the "president's course of fire")
no sighter shots, no coaching, shooters alternate shooting/scoring/working targets.
in 2024 there were 819 shooters in the Match
Arizona's David G (civilian) and Kade J (military team) both were in the top 100 this year!

We get to see this every day since we walk from the huts about 1 mile to the 200yd firing line in the dark.
We must be there for roll call at 0630 or 0615 and then "colors" (a cannon boom and playing of star spangled banner) at 0645, firing starts 0700

THESE FOLKS are why AZ has such a great team!
Several parents of junior shooters cooked breakfast and lunch and brought it to the line in the morning!
Then they cooked dinner every day!

The National Trophy Individual Match usually on Tuesday is a 50-shot individual match
the top 10% of non-distinguished shooters earn "point" or a "leg" in their journey to get the distinguished badge.
10 shots slow fire offhand at 200 yds
One 10-shot rapid fire string (60 seconds with a reload) sitting at 200 yds
One 10-shot rapid fire string (70 seconds with a reload) prone at 300 yds
20 shots slow fire prone at 600 yds
(this is called the "National Match Course of fire")

in 2024 there were 757 shooters in the NTI Match
AZ non-distinguished Shooters Mario C, David G, Collin S and Tomas S (those last 2 are juniors)
shot a score high enough to put them in the top 10% and got "leg" points.

The top 20 shooters in the President's Match are brought to the 600yd line for a spectator-friendly shoot off to determine the match winner.
(No Arizonans made the top 20 this year)

The National Trophy Team match, NTT, is sometimes called the "6-man team" match but you really need an absolute minimum of 8, 10 would be better.
Each team must send 2 pullers to the pits for the duration, no pit changes, so the pullers cannot be firing members of your team.
In team matches, coaching is allowed, and teams must provide a score keeper for the adjoining team.
These roles can be covered by firing team members, but that means swapping back and forth between firing, coaching and scoring.

Each shooter fires the 50-shot National Match course of fire described elsewhere.

During the slow fire stages, 2 shooters come to the line together and alternate firing shots, this is called pair firing.
In rapid fire one shooter at a time but the coach is behind him observing the wind and bullet traces.

Teams are either from service branches or from states. Each team must have one "new" shooter as a firing member,
that is, someone who has never fired this match at Camp Perry, or has only fired it one time.
This forces teams to recruit new shooters and prevents an "all-star" team from being created just to win.

Since we only had 10 juniors, AZ entered one team plus a mixed (with shooters from other states) out-of-competition team.
The AZ Junior team came in 4th place in the Junior team category.

The AZ Adult team came in 9th place over-all (6th among adult civilian teams).
A few adults coached the AZ juniors but one shooter and several parents worked targets in the pits for the 3 AZ teams for the entire day!

Two 2-man team matches are fired on Wednesday.

In the morning the National Hearst Doubles Team match (open to adults) firing the 30-shot President's course of fire.
Of 238 teams, AZ adult teams came in 57th (Mark M, Bill P), 84th and 109th place.

and in the afternoon the National Trophy Junior Team match firing the 50-shot National Match Course of fire.
AZ junior teams came in 11th (Theo T and Avery M) 19th, 23rd, 32nd and 33rd place of the 44 teams competing.

I'll add more description of NTIT, but the AZ Junior team came in 5th in the junior category.
AZ Adults shot out-of-competition and were the 1st place in that category, with a score that would have put us in 2nd place had we been in-competition.
