Shoot
Some call it a "Big Bore Shoot"
Group photo 2018 click picture for more pics.
We had THREE .50 cal BPE rifles in the 2018 shoot! Phoenix
AZ
Tentative Next shoot:
2020 &21 were
cancelled, check
back for update on the 2022 date!
(set-up 8:00AM, PRGC)
8:00 set up, 9:00
start (approx) should end mid afternoon.
Then we'll go out for food!
we will be on the PRGC High Power Rifle
Range. expect
about 20 shots in 4 or
5 stages both full size and reduced
targets, 10 to 100yds.
The theme of the shoot is
Elephant/Safari rifles 9.3mm/.375 &
up,
not really expecting pistol caliber or
american plains buffalo rifles,
there are other shoots for those.
Dress the part! If you won a pith helmet
in a prior year, wear it again!
$20 fee ($15 for PRGC members)
13-Apr-19
shoot Light

Despite the small number of shooters, everybody had a good
time at the

DNF
We fired approx 15 shots,
first
bullseye, then ugly buff, 25, 50 then
70 yds approx then charging buff, then a
big-5
run, then the pop-up elephants. if you wound or miss any of
the
big 5, or use an underpowered gun, your
client is eaten or trampled. 17 shooters, 12 different
calibers.
First, lets define "Big Bore"
This is a shoot for classic
African rifles.
The rifles the British sportsman of the past used to
hunt Africa and
India and other parts of the empire. I think .366/9.3
is about the
minimum, others might start at .375 H&H or .400
Nitro
This is not for classic american big bores like
the Sharps,
there are
other shoots for those.
And its not for pistol caliber rifles, that lever
action in .45 LC is
NOT an elephant gun!
Nor is it for .416 Cheytac or .338 Lapua or .50 BMG,
big bores sure,
but not
what I had in mind.
We might allow the larger elk calibers, like .338
Win Mag just to
expand the pool of available shooters.... Bolt
actions, single shots
and
doubles in the big British Nitro Express calibers,
THAT's what this
shoot is for!
So, for anyone looking for an excuse to buy that
Remington, CZ or Ruger
.375 or
.416, or a .458 Win Mag,
or something bigger...
Here're some videos from such a shoot in south africa:
